According to legend, is in the Göcek area that Icarus fell into the sea after his famous flight, trying to escape from the tower where he was imprisoned. Göcek was used as a port for ships loading chrome ore collected from mines in the nearby mountains during the Ottoman period. A prominent feature of the city is the fact that ports and coves of the island is situated in a large and secluded bay.

Ekincik is a small but beautiful bay full of pine and is a popular stop with all the ships that sail from Marmaris to Gocek and Fethiye.
